Who We ServeThe West End House youth development programs are unique in their reach into the community and in their service to the many diverse groups in Allston-Brighton. Reflecting the ethnic and cultural diversity of our community, Club members are 28% African American; 28% Hispanic; 22% Asian; 8% Caucasian; 7% Brazilian; and 7% biracial or multicultural. Languages used by Club members include Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Haitian/Creole, Portuguese, Russian, Vietnamese, Nepalese and American Sign Language. Over 70% of Club members receive public assistance, and income data gathered from member applications indicates that 75% of members’ families earn less than $25,000 a year and 90% qualify for free or reduced school lunches. Also, more than 70% of Club members come from single-parent homes, with a majority being headed by the mother or grandmother.
